Letter from the Editor |
A few quick notes for everyone now that fall is full swing:
In the latest ACR Bulletin, ACR BOC chair Jacqueline Bello has announced that the ACR has partnered with the American Cancer Society and the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, asking our imaging centers to open their doors on Saturday, Nov 12, specifically to grant patients access to lung cancer screening. Further details about this and other lung cancer screening initiatives can be found here:

Improving LCS Adherence | American College of Radiology (acr.org)
In other news, the ACR CT and MRI Accreditation Committee has recently modified requirements for IV contrast media supervision, recognizing that there is a large range of responsible providers who may manage an acute hypersensitivity reaction under the general supervision of a radiologist. The following may now provide direct supervision of IV contrast under such general supervision:
- Non-radiologist physicians (MD/DO)
- Advance practice providers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants)
- Registered nurses following a symptom- and sign-driven treatment algorithm
This welcome change should increase the flexibility of our practices while continuing to ensure appropriate safety for our patients. Further details for this announcement may be found here:

Lastly, as I suspect most are aware, Tuesday, November 8th is election day. I would encourage all members to take the time to cast your ballots then if not done earlier where allowed. This is our opportunity to choose who will lead and represent Florida in the near term. Please take advantage of it!
Thank you!

FRS President’s Message |
NOVEMBER 2022
Interesting fact regarding the environmental impact of health care in the USA, the sector is responsible for 8.5% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, a share that has only increased over the past several years.
This year more than 61 of the largest health systems and hospitals signed the climate change pledge: Click Here
Has your hospital made the pledge to help climate change? If not, you can make an impact by educating the leadership in your hospital to do the same by forwarding the link below.

I recently attended the RLI Summit 2022 at Babson College. It was a great experience with sessions on leadership by Babson Faculty and Case Study Method sessions led by Geoffrey D. Rubin, MD, MBA, FACR and Lawrence R. Muroff, MD, FACR. For those who have never attended the RLI Summit it is worth an experience. You will come back with realistic tools that you can use at your own practice.

FRBMA President’s Message |
FRBMA Winter Retreat is Booked and Ready for YOU!
The last few years have proven difficult for planning and orchestrating our in-person meetings while we battle with the impact of COVID-19 and the logistics surrounding pandemic infused gatherings. As an organization of humans, we look for interactions and networking in order to learn, teach, validate and socialize with each other. Temporarily appeased by Zoom meetings, virtual handshakes and a plethora of meeting memes, we have grown tired of staring at our screens, listening to disjointed microphones and debating whether to turn our cameras on or leave them off. As the FRBMA board, we are committed to providing an avenue for our members to leave their headsets and video cameras at home, pack an overnight bag and head to Orlando for our in-person winter retreat. We believe that the FRBMA Winter Retreat is a unique event that brings together colleagues and friends with opportunities to share thoughts, concerns and hopes for our practices in Florida. In the past, our meetings were characterized by a close-knit group of professionals loyal to our association and its purpose in supporting the management of radiology in Florida. We recognize that as an organization in a rapidly changing environment, the stronger we are as an association the greater the support and impact we have on the success of our members and the radiology industry. Our goal this year is to broaden our membership by bringing in new attendees that, in turn, will bring in novel ideas and diverse opinions to help us grow and thrive in these challenging times.
Our outreach to new members will include e-blasts, social media and person to person invitations. We are asking that everyone who typically attends our meetings consider bringing a staff member that has not attended in the past. We have created a new registration category for staff of FRBMA members attending the event. For a low cost, you can bring someone from your management, finance, marketing teams or someone you think may be interested from outside of your group.
The program agenda for the 2023 FRBMA Winter Retreat is packed with a variety of subject matter relevant to current radiology business leaders including topics in human resource management, marketing, operations, finance, regulatory updates, critical thinking and strategic planning. A cocktail reception is planned for Thursday evening to provide attendees with the opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with old friends and recognize our vendors for their generous contributions. Prizes will be raffled at the end of the meeting with additional raffle tickets awarded to individuals who attend the cocktail reception and/or bring a first-time attendee to the meeting.
The 2023 FRBMA Winter Retreat will be held January 26th-27th, 2023 at the Renaissance Hotel Orlando at Sea World. Room blocks are in place for both nights and are available now for booking.

Legislative Update |
The General Election is about a week out as I write my Ebrief. Hopefully, everyone is able to get out and vote!
Once the election results are finalized, there will be plans made for an organizational session which is constitutionally mandated to be held November 22nd, just before Thanksgiving.
Although nothing official has been announced, we are anticipating a special session the weeks of December 5th and 12th. The special session is anticipated to address insurance issues and other challenges created by the havoc caused by the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Ian. The Governor may also include some other issues that are right wing policy (anti-union; etc.).
Many folks are still digging out from all the havoc and destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Ian. The aftermath is always so tough.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the upcoming elections. |

Become a PAC Member Today |
Attention FRBMA Members! Please support the cause. We encourage you to be PAC members and supporters; you do not have to belong to the FRS. Donations can be made online through our PAC website www.FLRADPAC.org. Thank you for your donation: Dr. Beavers, Caserta, Letter, Maimone, Mergo.
It is critical that we support both our Florida PAC and RADPAC in order to bolster our voice in Tallahassee and Washington, respectively. Please join FRS lobbyist Alison Dudley in her special appeal for all Florida radiologists to become Florida PAC members. If you would like to help FRS defend radiology against untoward legislation and introduce bills that have a positive impact on our practices, we need your financial support to re-elect our friends in the state House and Senate. The FRS can also show you simplified ways on how to sign up your radiology group. Contact Lorraine Roger or contact Alison Dudley at for more information. |
