Letter from the Editor |
Hello everyone!
The 2023 ACR Annual Meeting was held in Washington, D.C. earlier this month. In addition to our customary ACR elections and discussion of policies and economics, this year’s meeting featured a special gala celebrating the ACR’s centennial as well as the unveiling of the ACR’s new rebranding campaign.
As usual, an enthusiastic Florida delegation was heavily involved in the meeting, representing our state, college members, and our patients. We hosted residents and medical students, helped lead the Southern States caucus in discussion of resolutions and policy, sat councilors on 3 of the 4 Reference Committees, and met for our FRS dinner at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab. The FRS was also awarded the Excellence in Government Relations Award for Group E from the ACR Committee on State Chapters.
One of the meeting highlights is always the ACR Convocation. We would like to congratulate the new ACR Fellows from Florida recognized at that event:

This was also the first year since 2019 with an in-person Capitol Hill Day, with numerous members, residents, and students meeting with our congressional representatives to voice the needs of our profession. Our congressional asks this year concerned mitigating Medicare physician cuts, ensuring the No Surprises Act be implemented the way Congress intended, and amending the Protecting Access to Medicare Act to help streamline its implementation. Thanks to all who helped arrange the appointments, with special thanks to Joe Cernigliaro and Juan Batlle for coordinating our “attack” the day of the event.
As always, thank you for your attention and all that you do for your patients and your profession!

FRBMA President’s Message |
RBMA DATA AND SURVEYS
I have recently been asked to serve on the RBMA Data Committee and attended my first virtual meeting with a very impressive group of individuals from around the country. For those of you who are new to RBMA, the committee was developed to support our membership by collecting data and reporting statistics and trends in a meaningful and timely manner. The RBMA website houses the work product of this committee under the resources section of their website under the heading Data and Surveys.
The primary role of this committee has been in the conducting and publishing of periodic Accounts Receivable and Compensation surveys. These surveys provide members with focused statistics to assist in the management of expectations and prospective budgeting for our practices and businesses. Current survey results can be found on the website. This year’s Administrative Compensation Survey has been extended to June 16th. We are strongly encouraging everyone to participate by coordinating one member of your leadership team to complete the survey. The greater the participation, the more meaningful the data will be. If you aren’t sure whether you have completed the survey, you can initiate the process and will be prompted if your information has already been received. The link for the survey is at the end of this E-Brief so you can go directly to the site!
In addition to these recurring surveys, the data committee hosts several other means for interacting and assisting with the gathering and dissemination of information pertinent to its members. The Hot Topics segment offers a bi-weekly poll that all members are invited to participate in. The poll consists of a couple of questions on a topic of general interest. You can view the results posted on the website at the closing of each question. The site also retains Hot Topic archives for your reference. Ideas for Hot Topics polling are generated by the committee. I encourage you to reach out to us if you have any topics you would like to see integrated into this real-time, real-value program, providing an electronic means of networking that is quick and easy to access.
The RBMA Bulletin is another avenue that provides data related information to members. The Bulletin is a bi-monthly journal that features articles focused on topics affecting our profession. It includes a Data column with mini-survey, survey results or other related topics provided by the Data Committee. RBMA committees provide an overwhelming level of resources and support for Radiology Business Management Professionals. Make sure to visit the website to make the most of your membership and encourage others to participate.

Legislative Update |
The Legislative Session is over and the bills that were passed are starting to arrive at the Governor’s desk for final action.
Of note, SB 614 relating to mammography was originally written to remove the sunset provision from law and continue the requirement of sending a letter to patients who have dense breasts. I was able to work with the sponsors and amend the bill so that the Florida law would sunset on September 10, 2024. MQSA will be requiring on September 10, 2024 that patients be sent letters notifying them of their breast density. This change in the proposed legislation allowed for patients not to be sent duplicative letters. Thanks to Senator Harrell (R) and Representative Casello (D) for working with us on this important issue. This bill was signed by the Governor on May 11, 2023.
The budget has not yet been sent to the Governor. Many are waiting to see if their legislative budget priorities survive the Governor’s veto pen.
Campaign season has started back up and with the Governor announcing his bid to be President it will be quite heated in Florida.
Thanks to everyone for their help and support during the legislative session. |

Become a PAC Member Today |
Attention FRBMA Members! Please support the cause. We encourage you to be PAC members and supporters; you do not have to belong to the FRS. Donations can be made online through our PAC website www.FLRADPAC.org. Thank you for your donation: Letter, Mergo.
It is critical that we support both our Florida PAC and RADPAC in order to bolster our voice in Tallahassee and Washington, respectively. Please join FRS lobbyist Alison Dudley in her special appeal for all Florida radiologists to become Florida PAC members. If you would like to help FRS defend radiology against untoward legislation and introduce bills that have a positive impact on our practices, we need your financial support to re-elect our friends in the state House and Senate. The FRS can also show you simplified ways on how to sign up your radiology group. Contact Lorraine Roger or contact Alison Dudley at for more information. |
